'Moon Over Buffalo' at Chocolate Church

Tamara Lilly and Wayne Otto play husband and wife Charlotte and George Hay in 'Moon Over Buffalo' at the Chocolate Church this weekend.

BATH -- Studio Theatre of Bath is now performing its new show:  Moon Over Buffalo, by Ken Ludwig.  Thom Watson, former president of Studio Theatre and the director, says:  “This is reminiscent of Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor; an incredibly funny show, with loads of slapstick, slamming of doors and cases of mistaken identity”. Moon Over Buffalo will play at Chocolate Church Arts Center through May 26.

Watson is pleased to be working again with Wayne Otto, who plays George Hay, an aging, drunken and womanizing actor who engages in a swordfight with his wife, wrestles with his mistress’s boyfriend and occasionally falls down on stage.  Otto was last seen as Sheriff Amos Crutchwaffle in  Bad Day at Gopher’s Breath.  The jealous wife and has-been actress, Charlotte Hay, is played by Tamara Lilly, who was seen most recently as the gossipy Mrs. Packard in He Said and She Said.  Musician Max Ater plays the stressed-out stage manager, Paul, who is in love with the Hay’s daughter, Roz,  played by STB regular, April Joy Purinton.  April has appeared in several shows recently, including Rumors and Lion in Winter.    Ann Scarponi appeared in Scrooge at Christmas and will play the role of Charlotte’s stone deaf mother, Ethel. Howard, himself not quite sure of his name, is mistaken for famous film director Frank Capra.  Howard is played by Colin Kelly, last seen in STB’s  The Angel Intrudes.  Eileen, a young actress who had a one night stand with George, is played by Amanda Bobbe.  Clay Hawks, last appearing as Teddy in Arsenic and Old Lace, will play the role of Richard, George’s attorney, who is in love with Charlotte.

“I am very excited about this cast”, says Watson.  “They are all clever, creative and very funny people, and we have a great crew supporting them.”

Moon Over Buffalo will be presented in the Chocolate Church Arts Center (main stage), May Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and are available through the CCAC box office, online at chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling 442-8455.
